The Honorable
Commissioner of Indian Affairs,
Washington, D. 0.
My dear llr. Commissioner :
I have the honor to acknowledge
receipt of office l e t t e r dated June 15, r e l a t i v e to the
school s i t e for the day schools for the Polk and Posey
bands. The allottment of the Posey band of Indians will
he completed about July 10th, as far as- the field work is
concerned. It is the intention of ; ir. Siminston and myself
to s t a r t the allottment of the folk Indians alon.^: the
Ikmtesuma Creek and around Yellow jacket.
Regarding the s i t e for the day
school in Allen Canyon, I would advise that a plot of
firroui'id has been selected which seems suitable for a day
school, and which i s centrally located in the Allen Canyon
d i s t r i c t . There is also a spring located about a quarter
p3 a mile from the school s i t e , which can be piped to the
school by gravity. The Indians advise me that this String
has not run dry for many years, sad I believe that
will be adequate for day school purposes. 1 w i l l be <
within the next few days to submit a legal description
the land selected.

Regarding the construction of the
day school buildings in Allen Canyon, I would recommend f i r st
of a l l , that quarters he provided for the day school teacher
and the farmer; these employees to be husband emd wife, the
wife as teacher and the husband as. farmer. ' Jhen his time
is not ta.- zen up farming among the Indians, ' he will be of
assistance at the school and insure better order among the
pupils than the teacher alone. I have thought ' over the
matter of building stone., buildings, on account of the fact
that there is rock handy and sand; hut after securing estimates
from two different maeons, I believe tnat the stone , hiiilai?> gs
are too costly, and that frame buildings can be eonst'- r- ucted
comfortable and s i g h t l y.
I give below a p r i c e - l i s t of building
material p . 0 . 3 . 3 land in*?, Utah, which is about 25, ; miles from
Allen Canyon.
