This letter gives definitions of Ute terminology, a description of Ute mountain territories near the Grand Canyon, and conveys an encounter with a group of Indians who chose to stay with him. The letter also recounts a story told by the Indians about Hu-pats (fox) and Kom (larg rabbit) who fight each other for their lives among the mountains. Mammoth cave.
