| Description |
Inspector McLaughlin holds a meeting with Indians from the Uintah Ouray Reservation to discuss low enrollment in Indian schools. This collection of documents contains an excerpt from the Salt Lake Tribune describing McLaughlin's intentions regarding reservation land and the success of his trip to Utah. McLaughlin provides the details of the meeting in a letter to Commissioner William A. Jones. Parents in favor of the present school system explain the circumstances that prevent them from being able to bring their children to school, while other parents voice outright objections to the school system. McLaughlin informs the group that education for their children is compulsory and that they must begin obeying the law. This collection of documents also contains a letter from McLaughlin to the Secretary of the Interior describing the enrollment situation in the Uintah Ouray Reservation schools |
