Description
The Commissioner of Indian Affairs informs Agent Brees that Edward and Frank Murdoch's applications to become members of the Ute tribe have been denied. In a letter to the Secretary of the Interior, the Commissioner provides a brief description of the family's background and concludes that since the Murdochs' mother was captured by a white family and never returned to the tribe, their family loyalties do not lie with the Utes. Agent Brees is forwarded the correspondence and evidence that led the Commissioner to deny the Murdochs' application. This document also contains the original applications submitted by the Murdochs.
