    Frederick James Pack was born February 2, 1875, the son of John Pack and Mary Jane Walker. He was ordained an Elder by Mahonri M. Brown, December 4, 1892, a Seventy by Francis M. Lyman, December 18, 1896 and a High Priest by John W. Taylor in 1897.

    He married Sadie Grant, daughter of Joseph Hyrum Grant and Evaletta Eldredge on November 25, 1896.

    He is the author of numerous treatises, both scientific and religious, prominently among the latter being his books "Tobacco and Human Efficiency" and "Science and Belief in God." He gave a series of 28 weekly radio lectures dealing with the breadth of Mormonism, April 3 to October 9, 1932.

    He attended the University of Utah, where he obtained the degree of mining engineer in 1904. In 1905 he graduated from the Columbia University, in New York City, with a degree of Master of Arts and in 1906 with the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. For one year, 1906-1907, he was professor of geology and mineralogy at the Brigham Young College at Logan, Utah. In 1907 he was called to the Deseret Professorship of Geology at the University of Utah.
