Show A vertical studio photograph of a single nurse standing against a fadeout background. The nurse is visible from head to mid-thigh. Her legs and the bottom of the photograph are faded out. The nurse is impeccably dressed in a full uniform. She stands with her arms folded behind her back. Her uniform is a high collared full light colored dress with pleats on the top portion of the uniform and a synch around her waist. She wears a pin signifying the insignia of St. Mark's Hospital. She also has her hair pulled on top of her head beneath a nurse's cap. |

This photograph is in excellent condition. It is a sturdy photograph without a mark or blemish of any kind except for a few minor scratches from handling and storage over the years, but it in no way inhibits the view of the photograph. On the back is a remnant of black construction paper from where it was glued to something at one time. However, the glues stain is minimal and the remnant of black construction paper attached is a narrow strip along the top portion only. The rest of the back is free and clear of any blemish or mark. The quality of the photograph is peculiar. There is a black border around the actual photograph that would suggest that it was developed in a larger format than originally intended. It also seems tilted. After careful investigation of the edges, it does not appear that the photograph has been cut or trimmed from another source. The nurse depicted in this photograph has no identification; no date of origin leading to any inclination of why she posed for the photograph. It can be assumed that it was for graduation purposes; however, there is no evidence leading to such an assumption. Her very presence in this photo adds a mystique of wonder and admiration to the era of early nursing. |
