Biographical Note/Historical Note +/-Floyd O'Neil was born on 14 July 1927, and spent his childhood in the Uintah Basin. He attended Carbon College before moving on to the University of Utah, where he was awarded a B.S. in History in 1957 and a Ph.D in History in 1973. He served as director of the American West Center from 1986 to 1996, and is currently Director Emeritus of that organization. Content Description +/-The Floyd A. O'Neil papers (1884-2006) contain documents from the American West Center, Western Folklife Center, Indian Self Rule Conference, and the Institute of the NorthAmerican West. Included are oral histories, research files, and both published and unpublished documents related to O'Neil's position as a history professor at the University of Utah, co-chair of the Western Folklife Center, and director of the American West Center.
