Description Paper from the AFRC 2014 conference titled My 60-year History of Fuel Dilution Technology by J. Lang.
Abstract I think I can safely assume that my history of fuel dilution technology is longer than anyone attending this conference. My first patent was applied for in 1954. A few years later after the patent was issued I sold it to a major US Auto company and they told me it reduced emissions. Since that revelation, I have worked to apply the technology in many applications including burners for many industrial uses. As regulations were inacted, I have added Fuel Staging, Air Staging, and FGR and new lower regulations have continued to be met. It has been quiet a journey and I have had the opportunity to work with some outstanding people. I will mention several during this talk such as Dr. Edward Teller and Jim Seebold who we all know. There are several people today who have contributed to my success through the years. The regulation-driven emission reduction technologies through the past 60 years have challenged us all and certainly more than ever in the last 20 years. I will also talk about diversification and how combustion principals have allowed me to establish a good reliable, well-rounded business that flourishes today. The talk will include some interesting stories that will help demonstrate how far we have come.
