Title Neurosurgical Comments on 5 Cases of Increased Intracranial Pressure
Creator Garton, Hugh J. L.
Subject Intracranial Pressure; Papilledema; Hydrocephalus; Cerebrospinal Fluid Pressure; Cerebrospinal Fluid Proteins; Arnold-Chiari Malformation ; Cranial Nerve Diseases
History Papilledema has a very high positive predictive value for raised ICP. The differential diagnosis includes compressive and ischemic optic neuropathies, papillitis, central retinal vein occlusion, vasculitis, as well as congenital abnormalities of the retina. Venous pulsations, central venous pressure and optic nerve sheath size have also been used to gauge intracranial pressure.
Pathology Papilledema; Cranial nerve palsies
Disease/Diagnosis Ophthalmic complications of increased intracranial pressure
Clinical Headache associated with cranial nerve palsies.
Presenting Symptom Increased cranial pressure
Neuroimaging N/A
Treatment Surgery
Date 2001
