The Jordan and Salt Lake and East Jordan canals provide water for the dense canopy of trees that developed in Holladay. Without irrigation from the canals, Holladay's only natural vegetation would be typical riparian flora adjacent to Big Cottonwood Creek, like cottonwoods.
