The Jordan and Salt Lake Canal flows north above Mill Creek. At 1440 Murphy's Lane there is a headgate that has been cut off, so that when the level of the canal reaches a certain pre-set level, approximately 4.5 feet, it automatically overflows the gate and into Mill Creek.
