Description
The Deseret stone was placed in the National Archives sometime during 1885, '86, or '87. The stone for the Washington Monument was accepted in Washington in 1853. In 1854 at 150 feet above ground progress was stopped. The Civil War also delayed it. In 1880 it became a government project and was completed in 1884. Gift of Arthur V. Watkins. Photo by A. Rowe (National Park Service), Jan. 1950.
