The photograph is signed "'Buzz Holmstrom' - One of the grandest guys I've ever known - Jennings Pierce NBC - June 11 1938. Haldane "Buzz" Holmstrom (left) was a river adventurer who, in 1937, was the first man to navigate the Colorado River alone. He was shot and killed mysteriously in 1946, on a river bank in Oregon.
