Description |
Daniel Boone leads pioneers over the Wilderness Trail through the Cumberland Gap to open the transAppalachian West. Boone and 28 axemen cut the famous, 300-mile Trail from Virginia to Ohio in 1775. This painting, made in 1850 by George Caleb Bingham, is one of the 424 illustrations in The American Heritage History of the Great West. The book traces the exploration and settlement of the West from before the American Revolution through the beginning of World War I. Published by American Heritage Publishing Co., Inc., distributed to the trade by Simon and Schuster, Inc. |
