Description Main Street showing movie theatre with old posters out front. Boy rides bicycle down sidewalk and crowds gather at gas stations. A sign for a EHS (Escalante High School) event hands above the street.
Comment Escalante was named after the famous Spanish explorer although Escalante never went to the valley. The valley was discovered by whites in 1866 during the Black Hawk War as cavalry traveled into the valley in pursuit of Indians. The first log cabin was built in 1876 by Philo Allen.
