Description Site of Joy store or trading post was by brust in foreground. Still standing are the cedar posts and barb wire fence enclosing the corral. Joy was a gathering place for sheepherders, prospectors, and miners. The site of Joy is approximately 30 miles northwest of Delta, Utah, located on the Juab-Millard county line. Drum Mountain Mining District was formed in 1872 and gold, silver, copper, lead, iron, mangenese, and bismuth mining took place. In 1879 the Drum Mountain Mining District was reorganized into the Detroit District by Harry Joy and Charles Howard, who established mining operations and a smetler at Joy. Harry Joy was the founder of Packard Motor Company in Detroit.
