Included in the scrapbooks are programs, correspondence, resolutions, telegrams, and contribution and condolence cards concerning the death of McCarthy. Biographical Note/Historical Note +/-Although ultimately known as the president of the Denver and Salt Lake Railway Company and co-trustee of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad Company, McCarthy started out his career as a lawyer, graduating from Columbia University in 1913. Six years later he was appointed district judge of the Third Judicial District. He went on to become a senator in Salt Lake County, a regent for the University of Utah, and the western director of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, among many other things. Content Description +/-The Wilson McCarthy papers (1917-1957) contain personal and business materials concerning McCarthy (1884-1956), a prominent business man in Salt Lake City and Denver. The collection reflects McCarthy's organization of personal finances and dealings with various businesses, especially in matters of stocks and other securities. Included are legal papers, correspondence, programs, biographical papers, news clippings, insurance documents, tax documents, bank statements, scrapbooks, and other materials. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.
