Description Dean Hunter was born in Chactau, Arkansas in 1919. Dean Hunter received his B.S. from Southeast Missouri State University in 1941. Dean Hunter received an M.S. in Health and Physical Education (1951), an M.A. in Guidance and Counseling (1953) and Ed.D. in Administration (1959) from Washington University in St. Louis. Dean Hunter was a teacher, coach, principle and Superintendent of Public Schools and State Director of Health, Physical Education, Safety, School Nursing, Drivers Education and Civil Defense for the State of Illinois before coming to Utah. Dean Hunter came to the University of Utah in 1961 as Chair of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Dr Hunter was Dean of the College of Health from 1961-1984. Dr Hunter retired as Dean in 1984, but continued to serve as Professor of Health Education directing the Graduate Program. The Health Physical Education and Recreation complex (HPER) was built in 1969 during Dr Hunter's tenure as Dean.
