Description Dr Swinyard was born in Logan, Utah in 1909. Dr Swinyard received his B.S. in zoology from Utah State University in 1932, and additional B.S. in Pharmacy from Idaho State College in 1936. Dr Swinyard received his M.S. in Pharmacology from the University of Minnesota in 1941 and his Pharm.D. from the University of Utah in 1947. Dr Swinyard was an Instructor and Assistant Professor at Idaho State College from 1936-1945. Dr Swinyard joined the faculty of the University's Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology in 1945. Dr Swinyard's research achievements were numerous for which the University recognized him as a Distinguihed Research Professor (1968-1969). Dr Swinyard was Chair of the Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences from 1965-1971. Dr Swinyard served as Dean of the College of Pharmacy from 1970-1976. Dr Swinyard was Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology. Dr Swinyard died in 1997. The portrait of Dr Swinyard was painted by Alvin Gittins in 1978, and is located on the south wall on the main floor east of the portrait galleryt of the Eccles Health Sciences Library.
