Description The Liberal Arts (Cowles) Building was designed by Richard Kletting and completed in 1901. It was originally used to house the library and liberal arts classes. It was later called the Mathematics Building and in 1980 named the Leroy E. Cowles Building. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 (http://www.arch.utah.edu/hba/htmlfiles/bldg013.html). From 1905 to 1920, three rooms in the building were devoted to instruction for the two-year medical program.
