| Description |
Spencer Fox Eccles was born in Ogden, Utah in 1934. He received his B.S. from the University of Utah in 1956 and his M.A. from Columbia University in 1959. He worked at the First Security Bank in Salt Lake City from 1960-1961 and the First Security Bank of Idaho (Boise) from 1961-1970. He became Executive Vice President of First Security Corporation, Salt Lake City, 1970-1975 and President from 1975-1986. He was Chief Operating Officer, 1980-1982 and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer 1982-2000. He was named Distinguished Alumni at the University of Utah in 1988. Mr. Eccles has maintained the family relationship with the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library and has recently provided substantial funding for the Health Sciences Education Building at the University of Utah which was named the Spencer F. and Cleone P. Eccles Health Sciences Education Building in his honor. (Marquis Who's Who in America, 2000, 54th edition) |
