Description Dr Cartwright was born in Lancaster, Wisconsin in 1917. Dr Cartwright received his B.A. in 1939 from the University of Wisconsin and his M.D. from Johns Hopkins Medical School in 1943. Dr Cartwright came to the University as a founding faculty member of the 4-year School of Medicine and was Instructor in Medicine (1947-48); Assistant Professor (1948-1952); Associate Professor (1952-1958) and Professor (1958-1980). Dr Cartwright was instrumental in the establishment of the School of Medicine's Genetics Program. Dr Cartwright was Chair of the Department of Medicine from 1967 until the time of his death in 1980.
