Description Dr Davern was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1931. Dr Davern received his both his B.S.Agr (1953) and M.S.Agr. (1956) from the University of Sydney. Dr Davern received his Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology in 1959. Dr Davern was Research Associate in Molecular Biology at the Laboratory of Quantitative Biology, Cold Spring Harbor, New York (1964-1965) and Assistant Director (1965-1967). Dr Davern was an Associate Professor and Professor of Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (1967-1976). dr Davern was Professor of Genetics at the University (1976-1999); Dean of the School of Medicine (1976-1977) and Vice President for Academic Affairs (1977-1983). Dr Davern's research involved the molecular mechanisms of DNA replication and its regulation as well as the evolution of plant biology. Dr Davern died in 1988.
