Title 1933 Jensen Bridge
Identifier 0068
Subject Bridge--Jensen Bridge
Description Hundreds were in attendance to the 1933 Jensen Bridge Dedication. There was a historical pageant, a parade and words that decared the importance of the structure in the early completion of US 40--"The Main Street of America" and dedicated to our Nation's War heros as the Victory Highway. The dedication of the Jensen bridge was probably the last event of national importance which would gave WWI Veterans a chance to take part in cermonies typical to the great cause for which the Victory Highway was dedicated. The bridge was replaced because it was unsafe for heavy loads. Over two hundred men were hired to work on this bridge. The first sup-structure steel was laid on Memorial Day, May 30, 1933. The old Jensen Bridge was moved to Ouray to span the Green River.
