Title Prospective study: an evaluation of the implementation and efficiency of a trauma triage system
Date 1987-06
Description This study again confirms the need and efficacy of organized trauma care in the community and demonstrates that a field triage systems can be implemented and facilitate improved outcome for critically injured patients. This was accomplished because of a concentrated effort by the hospitals and medical community to know the facts, develop the rationale for a system, plan operational details such as staffing and resources, implement and evaluate a program that would be in the patient's best interest. Further research in needed to observe outcome of head injury patients over a longer time span by following patients through their rehabilitation course. Charges and cost associated with the care of trauma patient is also an important issue that must be addressed in today's cost containment environment. Lastly, to determine if the current trauma system is continuing to be effective in Salt Lake County, continued review and surveillance will be necessary.
