Title Turnaround execution strategy
Date 2009-08
Description A problem that is observed in private sector enterprises in every industry is that of suboptimal innovativeness by knowledge workers, which denotes an inadequate rate of producing acts of innovation for the purpose of creating competitive advantages for the enterprise. Organizational communication researchers have observed organizational communication exercises in private sector organizations that were concluded to be extraordinarily capable of motivating knowledge workers to produce acts of innovation. My research strategy is to apply what can be learned from these successful organizational communication exercises, and to create a universal organizational communication exercise that similarly influences the innovativeness of knowledge workers in private sector enterprises of all industries. The assumption is that this exercise, when executed, will motivate the performance of the behaviors necessary to produce acts of innovation. My research is thus concerned with constructing an organizational communication exercise and determining its ability to sufficiently motivate the set of behaviors that are assumed to collectively produce acts of innovation. Executing the organizational communication exercise with participants from teams within Extra Space Storage, University Venture Fund, and MFG Financial, provided for a useful evaluation of the exercise. I used a simple measurement system that measured the behavioral performances of the participants, in response to the exercise, on a four-point scale. According to this measurement system, I found the exercise to be capable of motivating the participants to perform the target behaviors.
