The first garden on the site was built during the early Ming Dynasty by General Xu Da. It was destroyed but rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. It was again restored in the last century sometime after 1949.--Wikipedia. Note: Zhanyuan Garden is one of the two most famous gardens in Nanjing City, the other being Xuyuan Garden.--Wikipedia.
