Description
Mr. A. W. Simington,
Special Allotting Agent,
Towaoc, Colorado.
My dear Mr. Simington:
Reference is made to prior correspondence concerning
stock driveways through Cottonwood Canyon in San Juan
County, Utah, which matter was taken up sometime ago
with the Department of Agriculture.
A letter has just been received from the Department
of Agriculture, dated April 29, 1924, in answer to our
recent request for information, and the following is taken
therefrom:
"Since Department letter of December 4,
1923, was written the matter of the driveway
in Cottonwood Canyon in San Juan County, Utah,
has been considered by the local National
Forest officers who report that in a conference
with Mr. E. Z. Black of the Indian Office
it was decided that no repairs would be made
to improve the driveway. It was agreed by
them that the present driveway would answer
the purposes of the limited travel up the
creek bottom. Under date of March 12 the
District Forester stated that the Superintendent
of the Consolidated Agency was being informed
of the facts."
In view of this situation, you may submit in the
usual manner, any of the allotment applications which
you have withheld pending the outcome of this matter.
Very truly yours,
(Signed) C. F. Hauke
Chief Clerk.
