Description Matthew Caldwell and family traveled to Utah in Aaron Johnson Company (1850) and settled in American Fork, moved to Springville (1853), and later moved to Spanish Fork, where Caldwell served as mayor and was military officer in local Indian wars. Caldwell recounts details of 1845 murder of elderly Mormon, Edmund Durfee, by Adam Snider, one of Caldwell's neighbors, near Green Plains, Illinois.
