Title A Teacher's Voice: The Effects of Turnaround Models on Culturally Responsive and Inclusive Pedagogy

Description This paper provides a better understanding of how turnaround models affect culturally responsive and inclusive teaching. I present the findings of interviews with six elementary and middle school teachers currently teaching in turnaround schools in the Intermountain West. As the education system continues to be reformed, teachers' voices are lacking in changes to policies that affect their classrooms and teaching practices. This project aims to illuminate their perspectives, and offer recommendations to district, policy makers, and turnaround proponents for how to better engage teachers as professionals.
