Title The Journey of a First Grade Teacher Creating Literacy Practice Stations
Creator Terri Avery
Subject MEd
Description The purpose of this teacher action research study is to provide an example of a first grade teacher on a journey to create six practice stations for her classroom. This journey includes both the successes and struggles connected with creating practice stations as well as the lessons learned in how to make practice stations powerful teaching and learning tools. For this study, an action research method was used in my own first grade classroom. This study includes the resources used for the practice stations and explains the importance of carefully researching and planning before beginning such a task. Also examined are examples of how practice stations were run and managed, as well as samples of some work done at the stations. Despite the fact that practice stations needed to regularly be updated, it was found that they were a beneficial teaching tool which proved to assist students with learning important core curriculum and self-autonomy skills.
