Creator Amy Arburn
Subject MACL
Description This study explores how Utah schools can more effectively address bullying based on sexual orientation and gender identity and ultimately provides recommendations for creating safer environments and more tolerant climates for Utah youth, specifically LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) youth. Utah's conservative and religious climate presents unique challenges and proposed solutions consider each of these barriers to cultivating inclusive programming. By interviewing experts within the field, it has been determined that bullying prevention education in the state of Utah would benefit from using systemic, uniform, and consistent implementation methods, efficiently and effectively training educators via pre-service and professional development courses, and from comprehensive policies inclusive to sexual orientation and gender identity.
