Description Vocalization of a Richardson Ground Squirrel
Note Single chirp call issued by Adult Female Treble Clef (member of Richardsons ground squirrel research population at Winnipeg Manitobas Assiniboine Park Zoo) at 0955 CDT on 19 June 2008) in conjunction with a raven approximately 20 m southeast flying directly toward her approximately 4 m above the ground. Microphone oriented directly toward back of calling squirrel at a distance of 12.5 m between the microphone and caller. Temperature 24.8 C, Average Wind Speed 2.1 kph out of west, Relative Humidity 37%. Equipment: a tripod-mounted Audio Technica AT-815b shotgun condenser microphone, connected via a Tascam US-122L A/D interface to a Getac M220 Laptop running Avisofts Recorder Software. Files were recorded at a 48 kHz sampling rate, and 16-bit sampling depth, though ultimately these were converted on SASLabPro to a 44.1 kHz sampling rate, and then converted to MP3 files using iTunes 9.2.
